Eligibility
The only eligibility requirement for CORA Food Pantry goods is a written referral from a social services agency (federal, state, local, or volunteer) or church pastor. The reason for our referral system is to encourage food recipients to connect with appropriate private and public programs that can alleviate the causes of the problem that is creating the short-term need for assistance. CORA Food Pantry is not equipped or qualified to help people with their basic social needs but we do seek to assure that no one in Chatham County has to go hungry while they work out strategies for regaining self-sufficiency.
How Much Food
The CORA Food Pantry will provision eligible families and individuals with enough food for 3 meals per day for 1 week per distributions. Each family or individual is eligible to receive this provisioning up to 4 times per calendar year.
Kinds of Food
CORA will provide dry goods, canned goods, and other foods that are easy to store long term. This constitutes the bulk of available foodstuffs. There are often also frozen foods, dairy foods, eggs, and produce available, which can be stored in the Pantry's refrigerators and freezers. Attention is paid to the nutritional balance of foods distributed.
