During ordinary times, too many families across Chatham County experience hunger and food insecurity. But these are not ordinary times. Inflation is draining wallets while household expenses continue to climb. It’s harder than ever to make ends meet. You can make a real difference for children, families, and seniors in our community who are facing hardships and experiencing hunger by making a gift to CORA.
More than 1 in 8 Chatham County households (12.8%) reported that they worried that they would run out of food before they had money to buy more within the past year.
Although we live in one of the wealthiest communities in North Carolina, there is an extraordinary disparity between those with wealth and those who live in poverty. Families are experiencing food insecurity in alarming numbers, and the lines at CORA continue to grow longer. Over the past three months, we have experienced a 20% increase in the number of people needing food assistance over the same period last year. CORA needs your support to ensure that we can support those confronting the difficult decision of buying food or paying bills.
CORA is also facing a convergence of crises. Not only are we serving more people, but they are also using our services more often. We are receiving requests to expand our programs to serve more children and seniors in our community. And we are experiencing the most significant rise in food costs in our history. We know that our community is resilient, and we ask you to join us in ensuring that individuals enduring food insecurity get the assistance they need.
Please help our neighbors facing hunger this holiday season and beyond by making a gift of $5, $50, $500, or more. Your donation helps ensure that our critical programs continue to help families who rely on CORA to help them get through challenging times.
Our community has continuously demonstrated its care for others by feeding individuals and families facing hunger. This holiday season, we need your help! On behalf of all the families who visit CORA and receive the nutritious and healthy food they need. THANK YOU!
