CORA is pleased to announce that we have been awarded a three-year grant totaling $90,000 in unrestricted funding from The Leon Levine Foundation. This transformative funding comes at a pivotal time in our history as we address the growing demand for our services, prepare to expand operations into Siler City in the summer of 2025 and implement strategic initiatives to enhance our programs and community impact.
“This generous grant from The Leon Levine Foundation allows us to continue our mission of building a community without hunger while addressing the pressing needs of our neighbors,” said Melissa Driver Beard, Executive Director of CORA. “With food insecurity on the rise, these funds will empower us to sustain our current efforts and expand and innovate. This is especially critical as we prepare to open a new location in Siler City and ensure that our programs effectively reach those who need them most.”
The Leon Levine Foundation, known for its commitment to supporting impactful nonprofits, provides grants to organizations that demonstrate effective and sustainable solutions to pressing community needs. The unrestricted nature of this funding gives us the flexibility to allocate resources where they are most needed, enhancing our capacity to serve Chatham County residents and beyond. “We are proud to continue to support CORA’s work in Chatham County,” said Tom Lawrence, President & CEO of The Leon Levine Foundation. “CORA operates with thoughtfulness and urgency in tackling food insecurity, particularly for families who are most vulnerable.”
In 2024, we served nearly 13,000 individuals, providing over 1.8 million meals through our various programs. Our mission is to provide nutritious food to community members facing food insecurity. We offer access to healthy food through our choice food pantry, Mobile Markets, and specialized programs like SNACK! and CORApacks, which address the unique needs of children. We envision a healthy, strong, and connected community where everyone enjoys equitable access to abundant, safe, nutritious, and culturally relevant food.
We are deeply grateful to The Leon Levine Foundation for recognizing the importance of our work and investing in our future. This partnership underscores a shared commitment to creating a healthier and stronger community for all.
