We want to introduce you to two of our partners in building a community without hunger in Chatham County, Pittsboro Eats and Good Bowls. Pittsboro Eats is a group of like-minded people who love their locally-owned, independent restaurants and are committed to helping them thrive. Good Bowls is a Chapel Hill-based company that makes healthy frozen meals built on the Mediterranean diet.
Together these two groups are supporting local restaurants and people in our community who are facing food insecurity and in need of a healthy meal through their “Pay-It-Forward” campaigns. They raise money to package and distribute ready-to-eat fresh food bowls for families in need six times a year. A locally-owned restaurant makes bowls along with a few volunteers.
In March, they wrapped up their spring campaign, and with help from Postal Fish Company, they made 651 bowls for those facing hunger in our community. The bowls were delivered to CORA and Community in Schools Chatham for distribution to children and families.
We also must mention the bowls are delicious. One of CORA’s volunteers tried the bowl and had this to share. “In the bowl, there was boneless, skinless chicken with a mild seasoning, tender baby kale, and a mixture of rice, diced white and sweet potatoes, and tiny black beans. It was very tasty, and I give it two enthusiastic thumbs up!”
We are excited to see this partnership grow! The “Pay-It-Forward” campaign is a great way to get nutrient-dense and healthy food to local families facing hunger and help to keep the doors open at local restaurants.
