CORA Receives $25,000 Grant from JA Grifols Foundation

Posted on: August 5, 2024

We are thrilled to announce that CORA has been awarded a generous $25,000 grant from the JA Grifols Foundation to support our SNACK! (Summer Nutritional Assistance for Chatham Kids) program. This vital funding will help us continue our mission to ensure that every child in Chatham County has access to nutritious food, even when school is out for the summer.

Summer break is a time of joy and relaxation for many children, but for those facing food insecurity, it can be a period of anxiety and hardship. During the school year, many children rely on free or reduced-price school meals as a primary source of nutrition. However, when school is not in session, these children are at risk of hunger. This is where the SNACK! program steps in, providing essential food assistance to children and their families throughout the summer months.

Rebecca Hankins, CORA’s Development and Communication Director, highlights the importance of this program: “Summer feeding programs like SNACK! are crucial for the well-being of children in our community. They ensure that kids do not go hungry and can continue to thrive, both physically and mentally, during the summer break. We are deeply grateful to the JA Grifols Foundation for their generous support, which will allow us to impact more families across Chatham County.”

The JA Grifols Foundation has a long-standing commitment to supporting initiatives that improve health and well-being. Their support of CORA’s SNACK! program demonstrates their dedication to addressing food insecurity and fostering healthy communities. With this grant, we will be able to continue providing nutritious meals and snacks to more children and ensuring that no child in Chatham County has to face hunger during the summer.

CORA’s SNACK! program is more than just a feeding initiative; it is a lifeline for many families. By providing consistent access to healthy food, we help alleviate the stress and anxiety that comes with food insecurity. This enables children to enjoy their summer and return to school ready to learn and succeed.
