Welcome, SNACK! Interns

Join us in welcoming our SNACK! Interns for this summer: Estefani De Paz Rodriguez and Kevin Gencel, who are both students at UNC Chapel Hill.

Estefani is rising senior, majoring in Community and Global Public Health with a minor in Spanish for the Medical Professions.  She plans to become a Physician Assistant.  Before becoming an intern, she has volunteered at CORA as a shopper.  She says “I am so glad to be a part of this great program, work closely with my own county, and to be able to provide help for many families facing food insecurity.”

Kevin is a rising sophomore, majoring in Nutrition and Neuroscience. He plans to go to medical school. Kevin said “I am excited to get involved with this incredible mission and learn about nonprofit programming and management.”

This summer, Estefani and Kevin will work with CORA Program Manager, Daisey, to support the SNACK! program.  They will be get first-hand experience with every part of the process as they assist in participant registration, coordinating distribution sites, planning menus, and conducting community outreach.

About SNACK!

SNACK! (Summer Nutritional Assistance for Chatham Kids) provides each participating child with free groceries for 21 meals each week from mid-June through mid-August.

Groceries include fruits, vegetables, milk, protein, cereal, beans, grains, and snacks.

Families can enroll their children and pick up food from their choice of distribution sites located throughout the county. Food pick-up happens every two weeks, and will include two weeks’ worth of groceries at each pick-up.

Registration for SNACK! 2026 is now open.

You can enroll at any time during the summer, even if the program has already started.
